History of „Sozialpsychiatrie-Praxis“

The infant mental health center „Sozialpsychiatrie-Praxis for multimodal psychotherapeutic and psychiatric therapy of children and adolescents“ was launched in April 2010 and was founded by a specialist in child and adolescent psychiatry and psychotherapy Peter Dirscherl.

The location of the Meeraner Strasse 21 in the 4th Floor of an office building in the eastend of Berlin (Germany) is located well and professionally useful and convenient. The catchment area of the center includes mainly the eastern and central part of Berlin and the surrounding counties, but international patients are also welcome and individualized treatment plans can be developped. The Sozialpsychitrie-Praxis cooperates with health service Partners who offer help how to organize a diagnosis and treatment in Berlin for patients from foreign countries.

The site is located in Berlin near the intersection Rhinstrasse and Avenue of Cosmonauts (Alle der Kosmonauten), at the border of the Berlin districts of Marzahn and Lichtenberg. Berlin has got an international airport and there are confortable hotels nearby the centers location.

Social Psychiatry practice for children multimodal therapy and adolescent therapy, Meeraner Str 21, 4th floor

Since the beginning of his physicians‘ admission to practice as physician in the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Psychotherapy Peter Dirscherl has been working in a multidisciplinary team according to the guidelines of social Psychiatry Agreement (SPV). The center uses both behavioural and psychodynamic principles, focusing primarily through their creative and artistic focus accents. In this center, differentiated group modules based on existing manuals have been developed by the therapeutic team. The multimodal approach to treatment and the continuity of the therapeutic relationship have important significance in the treatment process.

The quality of the measures and procedures will be discussed critically and continuously improved through structures such as adequate staff meeting time in weekly conferences and regular super-vision and interaction processes. Especially on the controversial and elusive field of child therapy is it important to practise the inter-professional discourse with the expertise of several technical groups what allows to reach the best benefit under the greatest possible safety procedures.

The claim of Sozialpsychiatrie-Praxis for multimodal children and youth therapy is to present a model of social practice in outpatient mental health services for children and adolescents. In this context, the practice founder Peter Dirscherl has targeted the location in the catchment area of Berlin’s biggest social focal point where such a treatment unit was most needed. The development of highly specific parent training programs (eg coaching for dealing with depressive, anxious, hyperactive or autistic children) complementary to the multimodal treatment of children is planned in collaboration with a fellow social service . However, the borough of Marzahn-Hellersdorf (District of Berlin) had not been willing to cooperate, even though such a model project is urgently needed right here. It is very hard to find cost carriers for parental trainings even though it would be essential to optimize the children therapeutic treatment options in the most vulnerable region of Berlin and to counteract the here prevailing trend towards increasing social disintegration.

The concentrated effort to provide professional functionality, which is also reflected in the architecture of the rooms, is at the first place in the therapeutic work. The patient may use experts for his problem situation in the form of a treatment team as a companion and there are offered technical aids to assist with personal problems.

From May 2012 to March 2014 Martin Ristau worked as a specialist in child and adolescent psychiatry and psychotherapy in the Sozialpsychiatrie-Praxis with the therapeutic team.
